1. Culture & Nightlife on a Student Budget
Free opportunities and discounts are worth their weight in gold. Borås has a couple of real trump cards here:
Kulturhuset Borås
Free museums for students: The Textile Museum in the Textile Fashion Center has free admission for students upon presentation of a student ID (and always free on all Thursday evenings). Borås Art Museum also always has free admission.
Sweden’s largest outdoor gallery: Don’t miss downloading the app Hej Borås and taking your own ”street art tour” among all the large murals and sculptures in the city center. A perfect way to get to know the street network as a new resident.
Meet new friends: The popular Speedfriending at Hemgården is an excellent way to make new contacts through.
Cheap evening activities:
- Pub quiz: Quiz nights are one of the easiest ways to get to know people. Recommend places like Bowlers (Tuesdays) or Brasseriet.
- Student nights: Nightclubs like X&Y run student concepts like Klubb Pank on Thursdays with adapted prices.
2. Study spots & Coffee breaks
When you need a change from the library at the University:

Cafés with ”pluggro”: Cafés like Divine Presse Café have a cozy atmosphere for computer-fed study hours. Café Viskan on Sandwalls plats is a classic when the sun peeks out and you want to sit outside next to the river. Atmosphere and calm as well as good prices can also be found at Café Hemgården or Café Simon, both of which are located in central Borås.

3. Nature & Recovery a stone’s throw from Campus
Something that usually surprises new Borås students is how quickly you reach real nature:
Rya Åsar: A nature reserve close to the city with viewpoints, barbecue areas and hiking trails – perfect for a weekend hangout or a run when exam anxiety creeps in.

Kypegården’s outdoor recreation area: Swimming lake, sauna, outdoor gym and barbecue areas just a short walk from the city center.

Stadsparken & Annelundsparken: Borås’ ”living room” on warm autumn days. Perfect for a barbecue, coffee or just to sit in the grass between lectures.
4. Smart Logistics Tips for Newcomers
Keep an eye on the travel card: How to get around most easily with Västtrafik (especially to and from Resecentrum or the cycle routes along Viskan).
The second-hand hunt: New students often need to furnish their accommodation cheaply. Tell us about the districts’ large second-hand shops such as Erikshjälpen on Vegagatan or Frufällan Marknad for clothes and interior design.
